Salih and the She-Camel

Salih and the She-Camel tells children the story of Prophet Salih and the people of Thamud, one of the Qur’an’s stories about gratitude. It is an illustrated book from our collection Stories of the Prophets, and the English edition of El Profeta Salih y la camella.

Written by Ahmed Bermejo and illustrated by Pablo Rodríguez, this Islamic children’s book in English is the story of a young man in whom a whole people had placed their hopes, and of the most beautiful creature Allah ever sent as a sign of His love and His power.

The story takes the reader to a land of reddish mountains and houses carved into the rock, where a people lived who had everything: springs of fresh water, palm trees heavy with dates and great flocks. With patience and love, Salih tried to open the eyes of his people, who had grown so used to having everything that they had forgotten who gave it to them. And Allah gave him a sign: a she-camel that came out of the heart of a rock, beautiful and gentle, which the people were to care for and respect as what she was, a gift.

It is a book about listening with the heart, about gratitude, and about caring for everything Allah places in our hands: the water, the animals, the earth and the people around us. It closes with an activity section for children. Large format (A4), 44 pages, paperback. Ideal for reading together as a family from age 4, and for reading alone from age 7.
